Student Spotlight: Sierra Champion
Sierra’s last name suits her as she has quickly become a champion for children’s literacy in Alabama. Sierra is a featured student entrepreneur at the IDEA Bank, where she works on growing SHORT the Squirrel, a nonprofit organization that promotes reading to Alabama youth. Since Sierra became SHORT’s project manager last year, the organization has published two new books, “SHORT Recycles” and “SHORT Gets Sick” to complement the original “SHORT in Court” with a fourth book coming this September. Governor Kay Ivey has publicly endorsed SHORT the Squirrel and its mission to educate Alabama’s youngest citizens.
Sierra uses the IDEA Bank as her home base. In June, members of the TROY Football Team volunteered to help her assemble 2,500 literacy kits to be delivered to Children’s Hospital. Follow the link below to see pictures from this workday!
Closing Thought
“Collaboration is key. Work with other small businesses in your community. There is often power in numbers, but there is also the ability to support one another and to brainstorm in ways that may not be possible for larger businesses.” - Adriano & Pina Ciotoli, co-founders of WindsorEats, a Canadian food tour business that found success in the midst of Covid-19.
We hope to see you collaborating at the IDEA Bank soon!
